Red River by andreasrocha Red River by andreasrocha
personal piece...once again trying to learn from mistakes done in previous paintings to seek a more "fruitful" methodology.

On a side note: A funny thing is that when I post a new painting I don't have the slightest idea if people will like it or not...it really is a shot in the dark. Once I start reading the comments (when I get them, of course) I realize all the mistakes I did and feel somewhat stupid for not realizing them. It's one of those tricks the mind plays on us. Therefore, I want to thank you all for the feedback, good or bad, as it helps me improve every day.

Updating the image as I read the comments.

Beautiful picture. I count 3 questions that come to mind: the first screaming one is "Why is the river red?" :P, the second is "Who is the man on the horse?" and the obvious followup is "What is he doing there?"

I love this so much, legitimately one of my favourite artwork on DA. As for why it is so good, the composition is just perfect, the way the river weaves in with the clifs. At first you think that the river is running with blood, then question that It might be just that colour naturally.

Like someone said earlier, this image has the ability to trigger people's curiosity, making them wonder about the backstory of this place.

Personally, I feel that the ability to trigger curiosity is one of the keys to succeed as an artist. When people go beyond whether the image is pretty or not and start wondering what may have happened or the reason to this and that, it won't matter that much if you've made some minor mistakes: some nitpicker (like me for example) will surely come along sooner or later and point out something for you to work on ^^ haha =D

Is this supposed to be a river drenched in blood? If so, I think some dead corpses would help gettin' the message over.

It is a beautiful piece of art! Truly. Your lights on the rocky formations are spot on! The only thing I was wondering, is if you let the waterfalls without red on purpose?

looking at the brightness of the values in the waterfalls, i feel like they stand out a lot. you could continue the waterfalls or clouds gently highlighting the valley of the mountains rising right behind the central falls, so that brightness tapers off more gradually. just a thought :)

Actually, it might be refering to a legend regarding a battle which took place in Rio Tinto (Portugal): so many Moors and Christians died that the river water turned red ("Rio Tinto" actually means Red River)

The water in the Nile River is transformed to blood in the story of Moses. It actually is something from the Bible.
